A blockchain (block chain) consists of ‘blocks’ or records, which are cryptographically secured. It is resistant to modification and is an open and distributed ledger. Once recorded, the data cannot be modified. It is referred to as a ‘chain’ because as each new block of data (or ledger) is updated, it is ultimately stored at the tail end of an on-going chain of updated records.
